New Exiles #5

Oh Chris Claremont what’s happened to you? I loved your old X-Men stuff but seriously W-T-F are you doing with the New Exiles?! The whole Black Panther/Namor/Evil Storm/Elven Gambit was barely tolerable but I’m drawing the line at bestiality. A man and a dragon in love?! Again WTF! I’ve put up with your shenanigans and 80’s inspired costumes out of love for Psylocke. (Not in a lesbian way, more of a role model way. Yep, one of my role models is an English telepath in an Asian ninja’s body.) Not anymore, you’ve ruined her. All this hinting at an interest in Sabretooth is disgusting. I don’t care if they’re from different worlds, who gets the hots for someone who once disemboweled them?!?! For the first time in my life I’m taking a comic off my pull list, sorry new exiles but you gotta go.

p.s. Sage is still a uninteresting, lame excuse for T & A.

Free Comic Day!!!

I have to say that today is one of my favorite days of the year, other than halloween and birthday. Free Comic Day is the first Saturday in May and it’s like Christmas for comic geeks like myself.  Last years was pretty disappointing, I was want too late and missed out on all the good stuff. I was not going to make that mistake again. I also shopped at a less than awesome store, another mistake I changed this year.  Anyways, upon picking up my comics this week I found out that they were opening at 9am this FCD and resolved to be there bright and early.

Arriving at the store I was surprised at how empty it was, they also don’t normally open til 10am so that probably had something to do it with as well. I headed toward the back of the shop and was helped by none other than the Spectacular Spider-man! Yep, seems Spideys fallen on hard times and is now working in a comic shop. Trying to conceal my delight I happily took the X-Men comic I had come for and a Green Lantern ring. Yes, I am now the proud owner of a Green Lantern ring.  Freaking Amazing!!!!! I grabbed the short box I needed and was headed for the check out when the owner of the shop asked me if that was all I was getting. After telling him that the X-men title was all I really came in for and didn;t want to be greedy he replied with “you’re a subscriber you can get more than that.” We headed back to the ever helpful Spider-man and I ended up walking away with the following:

• X-men
• Project Superpowers
• Atomic Robo
• Dan Dare
• Hellboy

I havn’t read them all yet (still trying to catch up on the last 2 weeks worth) but X-men more than lived up to my expectations. Not perfect but pretty damn good for a free comic. I;ve always liked Pixie and it kept her characters happy spirit the same but the drastic change in her appearance was a little jarring. In New X-men Pixie always appeared as an cute underdeveloped young preteen. In this comic she was suddenly a fully developed typical X-babe playing baseball in a leotard. Seriously, who does that?! The art was good though, much better than the Project Superpowers title which looked a little unfinished.  Hellboy was a little creepy but that’s what makes Hellboy great. Havn’t read the rest yet, I’ll update with those later.
